The Imitation of Mary is a lovely and readable overview of the Christian life lived under the mantle of the Mother of God. Father Quan Tran has drawn on his own wide reading and experience in the priestly life to present his readers with a full picture of what the Christian life is and how to live it in union with the Mother of Mercy. Written in a very accessible style, without pretense or ambiguity, this book teaches and inspires and moves its readers to a close union with the Holy Trinity through the power and example of the Mother of us all. So few Catholics have a convincing and comprehensive grasp of the spiritual life. Father Quan goes about the work of an apostle to build up the Church by encouraging and building up the life of the individual soul. Full of practical advice and a keen pastoral sense, he introduces the reader gradually, but firmly to a life in Christ he or she may never have imagined possible. Although he writes primarily for the lay faithful, his work can inspire clergy and religious who have grown inattentive to their own high calling to take up the inner life and live it to the full for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. An outstanding priest has written an excellent book on a person we all know and love, Our Blessed Lady. Engaging, practical, uplifting — and sanctifying — this book will help every Catholic from the average parishioner to the Carmelite nun. It is a modern “Handbook on Holiness”. Most people do not receive all the graces that God wants to give them.
The Lord wants to pour out torrents of graces upon us, but many do not know how to receive all the gifts that He wants to give us. So many graces intended for our benefits are left unclaimed, many of God’s gifts are denied, and many of His blessings are not received. Unfortunately, many of us do not realize that we are passing up on many of God’s graces simply because of we do not know how to respond or have the proper disposition to receive them.
Mary, Full of Grace
We can grow in grace by understanding and imitating the qualities of our mother and our model, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary received God's grace not just because she is the Mother of God, but because of her dispositions and ability to properly respond to God’s grace. If we honor our Blessed Mother and follow her guidance, we too can merit the fullness of grace that God has in store for each one of us.
